HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE

AN ALL VAUDEVILLE PROGRAMME.

An all vaudeville programme is being .presented at His Majesty’s this week, and the huge audience present last evening showed their appreciation in no uncertain manner. The Veterans of Variety, a quintet of oid-time stars, give the impression thnt the English musical halls of a generation ago must have been real sources of amucoment entertainment. Dressed in blue silk coats; they succeeded in a few moments in compeltely captivating the audience, and then, to the accompaniment of rounds of applause and hearty, laughter, the five, talented artists, whbse names, Lily Burnand, Florence Hinton, Jake Friedman, Arthur Slater, and George Campbell, were household words thirty years back, rollicked through such ballads as “Two Little Girls in Blue,’’ “Oh, Mister Porter,’’ “The Lily of Laguna,” and “She Was a Dear Little Dicky Bird.” Humour was nob wanting in the act, and the old-style fun still found ready acceptance with a modern audience.. In the Veterans of Variety, the Fuller management has brought to New Zealand one of the finest turns seen here for many years. Violet Victoria sang Irish songs attractively, ‘and Miss Leslie Elliott was again successful in pianologues. A rousing welcome was given to Jimmy Moore, the popular Scotch baritone and comedian, and Miss Jenny Roy was also applauded for her ragtime efforts. Morris and Cowley gave a splendid burlesque on onera, and Heuri French was seen in clever impersonations of famous musicians and actors of the past. This programme will be presented all this week, while a special matinee will be given On Saturday afternoon.
