The Melbourne Cup will bo run at Flemington to-day. ' After his ridiculously easy win in the Derby Manfred is sure to be at a very short price. That is what happened to F. Dempsey. The Riccarton track should witness a good deal of interesting work this morning, for most of the horses engaged at the meeting have arrived! Two North Island jockeys, M. McCarten and R. J. Maclcie, were riding work at Riccarton on Saturday morning. Rampion, who won the Maribymong Stakes at Flemington on Saturday, was also successful, in ' the Breeders’ Plate at Randwick. 5 J. Barry had a very successful trip to Gisborne, where he rode five winners. From the Poverty Bay town he went on to Auckland. The final payments for the New Zealand Cup and Stewards’ Handicap disclose that the races will be keenly contested next Saturday. In the south they think that the three-year-old-Money Order is a com ing champion. The Cup meeting will show how true this is. Incursio is to bo given an opportunity to make good gs a hurdler. He works well on the training tracks, but has so far failed to run as well in races as his training essays suggest. Perhaps the change may have the desired effect. Nancy Bee’s record this season Is a remarkable one, and her success .at Gisborne on Saturday brings her scoix up to four firsts, five seconds, and one third in nine starts. B. H. Morris was associated with Mr C. Elgar’s horses at the recent meeting at Trontham, 'when tlia weights suited, and it is now announced that he'-will do the riding for the stable during tlje current season. When Red Wink was withdrawn from the New Zealand Cup and Stewards’ Handicap, it was thought that something was wrong with him, but

recent track performances at Riccartor. suggest that he is very well, and na doim. his owner has his eyes upon a good middle-distance race at the Cup meeting. , The following foalings are reported from Mr J. F. Buchanan’s Kinloch stud: Waterspray a colt, Temerin a filly, Rainbow Gold, a colt, Bonaria a filly, Disdainful a colt, Tumult a colt, Lovelorn a colt, Lady Kinloch a colt, War Lady a colt, and Cvmene a filly, ail to Paladin; Kildee a colt to Martian, Charmilla filly to Clarenceux, and Torquato a filly to Night Raid. Polyphontes, who won the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown in 1924 and 1925, is to go to the stud at his owner’s property, Maiden Erlegh. Two successful stallions of past yeais. Grme and Buchan, equalled Polyphontes’s performance in the race at Sandown. Up to the end of the A.J.C. meeting G. Price had won eight races in the Sydnev metropolitan area of the valufe of £9951. Tamatete is said to he a likely starter in the Feilding Stakes'. which eventhe has already placed to his credit twice in succession. -. Good reports come from Te Awamutu concerning Phaola, who is reported to have trained on well since winning the Avondale Stakes. Phaola is sure to he one of the popular fancies for the Welcome Stakes at Ellerslie and her form at Avondale entitles her tq be. Mr J. A. Taylor’s English horse Royal Picture is a two-year-old, and ran thrfee times in England tip to the end! of August. His only placing -was a third in the Mount Harry Selling Plate at the Lewes summer meeting.
