CHAMPIONSHIP COMPETITIONS FESTIVAL

In connection with the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition a championship competitions festival is being held from January 6th to 12th inclusive. The programme consists ofj secular and operatio solos for sopranos,! mezzos, contraltos, tenors, baritones,' and bass voices; sacred solos for ladiesj and gentlemen. Piano and violin' solos for amateurs and professionals, saxophone solo and instrumental trios, Shakespearean recitations, dramatic recitations, humorous recitations, music monologue and character recitals; the prizes being £5 5s and £2 2s. Half-hour entertainments, prizes £ls and £o; choir contest: (a) Anthem, and (b) operatic selection; prizes £4O and £ls; and male quartettes, prizes £lO and £5 Professor W. E. Thomas, Mas. Doc., Oxford, has been appointed the musical adjudicator, and Professor Maxwell Walker, M.A., 8.C00n., the elocution adjudicator. It is expected that this Exhibition Festival will attract a large entry, and that the cream of the competitors at competition festivals throughout the Dominion will take part in this festival. All the items are own selection, so therefore 6cmie excellent performances should be heard at this festival. Entries close with E. S. Wilson, Box 92, Dunedin, on November 10th. Syllabus may be obtained at music warehouses, or full particulars may ne obtained from E. S. Wilson, secretary, Box 92, Dunedin.
