LONDON MAY LEND ABROAD
LIFTING OF EMBARGO LIKELY GOVERNMENT WAVERING. Australian and N.Z Cable Association. LONDON, October 7. The city edition of the “Daily Express” says there is reason to believo that the Government is wavering in its attitude towards foreign loans, and that it will shortly remove the embargo, and allow the money market to function without restriction. At present money is being kept cheap by artificial means, the Government arguing that the country caunot afford to give foreigners assistance, which will mean heavy shipments of gold from Britain, and a high bank rate in London. Already New York, during 1925, has lent £150,000,000 abroad, and is getting the borrowers to spend the bulk of the money in the United States. If London had similar opportunities. much of this money might t« sent from London, not only encouraging British trade hut preserving London's control as the financial cent’' of the world.
