A WOLF HUNT
In Russia there are vasts, tracts of snowy desert land, inhabited by hordes of. wolves who are dangerous and fearless when hungry. To rid the district of as many wolves as possible, hunts are organised by brave and skilful men. A large sleigE is got ready, and strong, fast horses are harnessed to it, and the hunters, having procured an experienced! driver, take their guns and ammunition with them. A hog is also taken with them. Having arrived atl the desert, the hog is put put on the ground behind the sleigh, and has to run along behind, being tied on by a rope. Soon the wolves, attracted by the unfortunate animal's squeals of protest. come bounding along after it in hordes, all’.trying--tocatch and devour the poor brute.. 'When a large number of the wolves are following behind, , and the hog is almost caught, it is hauled safely into the vehicle, and the, .hunters begin to shoot their dreaded followers. ' Biki , the dead ones are soon replaced by others, .and the hunters sometimes find it difficult to reach home safely.
