LABOUR PARTY AWAKES
TO MENACE OF COMMUNISM “LEFT WING” WILL BE CHECKED MUCH HARM ALREADY DONE By Telegraph.—Brass Assn. —Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association (Received September 24, 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, September 24. The “Daily Express’s” Labour correspondent says the leaders of the Labour Party intend directly to challenge the Communist left-wingers at the conference in Liverpool, which is regarded as the most critical in the party’s history. There will be a preliminary deliberate spiking of the guns of the promised Communist attack on Mr Ramsay MacDonald, by the publication to-day of a confidential report on the Zinovieff letter affair, in which the investigation committee will declare that Mr MacDonald was justified in all his actions. He had no alternative but to accept the genuineness of the letter, though later evidence suggests that it was bogus. The official side of the party is planning to check the extremists at every turn at Liverpool, as it is felt that the inertia of the right wiifg at Scar-
borough allowed the Communist wing to score tactical successes in the Trades Union Congress by the passage of extreme resolutions.
