VICE-REGAL GOVERNOR-GENERAL’S MOVEMENTS. The Governor-General and Lady Alice Fergusson will be present at the Red Cross ball, to be held in the Town Hall this evening. On October oth Their Excellencies will visit Hastings, returning to Wellington on the 3th. On Wednesday, October 21st, Their Excellencies will leave for Napier, and on the following day will attend the Hawke’s Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Show. They propose to return from Napier to Wellington on Monday, October 26th.

Mr D. G. A. Cooper has been appointed a member of the Prisons Board.

Signor Bruno Sarti, tenor of the Sistine Choir Soloists, has returned to Wellington after a long and successful tour of the Australian States. Mr D. E. Hoste, general director of the China Inland Mission, and Mi B. S Conway, of the same mission, arrived in Wellington by the Auckland express yesterday afternoon. Mr Conwav is due to leave again for Napier and Gisborne on Friday, 25th, but Mr Hoste will remain till Monday, 28th, when he goes to Christchurch and Dunedin,

Messrs C. M. Luke (chairman), W Appleton' (hospital committee). G. Petherick (social welfare!, F. Castle, Mrs McVicar, Dr. D. M. Wilson (medical superintendent), and Mr J. Cov.o (secretary) were elected by the Wellington Hospital Board yesterday to attend the conference of the Hospital Boards’ Association at Dunedin in February next.

At the meeting of the New Zealand Football Association last evening, the chairman, Mr A. Varney, moved a vote of condolence with the widow of the late Hon. C. H. Izard, which was carried, all standing. Mr Varney said Mr Izard was one of the whitest of men, and an ardent supporter of the Soccer code.

A strong note of appreciation of the services rendered to the community generally by the late Hon. C. H. Izard was expressed by Mr C. M. Luke at the Hospital Board yesterday, in moving a vote of condolence with the bereaved family. The Rev. H. Van Staveren, who seconded the motion, said Mr Izard served with him on the Benevolent Board for many years. The Wellington Hospital Board yesterday accepted the resignation of Mt R. Campbell Begg as representative of the honorary staff committee on the hospital committee, at the same time expressing appreciation of his services. Dr. A. Pafk has been appointed surgeon on the honorary staff of the Children’s Hospital, vice Dr. P. H. Robertson, de-ersed.

The'Rev. H. and Mrs Van Staveren received pleasing mementos of their golden wedding from members of the Wellesley Club. To Mrs Van Staveren the gift was a gold clock suitably inscribed with the good wishes of the club, while the Rev. H. Van Staveren was presented with a gold spectacle case inscribed: “Rev. H. Van Staveren, golden wedding, September Ist. 1925. From admirers, Wellesley Club.”

The death occurred at his home at Greytown of a veiy old Wairarapa settler, Mr Charles Henry Tilyard, formerly of Morison’s Bash. Mr Tilyard was born in Tasmania 79 years ago. Coming to New Zealand with his father as quite a young boy, he went to the Wairarapa, and was first in the employ of Mr Ru&sell, at Whangaimoana. Later, he was for many years employed on the Bidwill Estate. About twenty-five years ago Mr Tilyard took up a farm at Morison’s Bush, and he continued dairying there until he retired fourteen "years ago. For the last ten years he had lived in Greytown. At the meeting of tho" Wellington Hospital Board yestetdkv the chairman, Mr C. M. Luke, referred to th* death of Mr James Godber. which tooK place in Auckland a few days ago. In moving a vote of sympathy with the widow and family, Mr Luko said Mr Godber was an active member of the Wellington Hospital Board of Tr’istees from 1902 to 1910, and on the board as reconstituted in 191 u for a further three years, after which he did not st-ek re-election for business reasons. In his period of office he was chairman of tho finance committee and of the ho 6 pital committee. Of the eighteen members who were on the board in 1910 eleven have joined tlie great majority, and the Rev. H. Van Staveren is the only member on the board to-day who has served continously from that time. Mr Van Staveren’s association with the present and old hoard covers * period of 45 years.
