GIVE GENEROUSLY!
It should not be necessary at this stage to bespeak the public’s generosity in behalf of the Salvation Army’s Self-Denial Fund. The work planned by that amazing patriarch, William Booth, . goes on for all the world to see and for all the world to admire. Ihe Salvationists’ sympathy and hand-reach out into the high wry s and the byways toward the unhappy and the unfortunate. This wonderful organisation knows no sect in its mission of mercy. Lpt a human be, in need of physical or spiritual sustenance, and the Army is at his side. In caring fo.r the soul of man it does not neglect his body. These responsibilities are growing. The self-imposed obligations of the Salvation Army are such as necessitate an occasional campaign in the community for financial aid. The big annuaf appeal will be made to-day. As the mightiest social reform agent now in operation, the Army is justly entitled to the help it is seeking. .This self-denial effort is well named. It means that citizens are asked to deny themselves a little something ohee a year in order that the great cause may benefit. Such a sacrifice will be made afl the more willingly if it is remembered that the life of the working Salvationist is one long continuing self-denial. As we are told, this appeal is the sheet-anchor of the finances of the Army. If this reclamation and healing of bruised and broken mankind is not to be checked, we must not only give, but give cheerfully, and in no niggardly fashion. Apart from our plain duty to do so, we know of no better means of expressing thankfulness that life has been kinder to us than to so many others.
