MOTOR CONFERENCE. During the last few days members of the motor trade interests, both wholesale and retail have been meeting in conference in "Wellington from all parts of the Dominion. Many of the delegates were accompanied by their wives, and a committee of Wellington ladies, assisted by some of the local men, have been entertaining the visitors. The visitors were met on their arrival in Wellington, and taken t< their hotels, and each lady visitor iv ceived a little posy of flowers from tr local ladies. The concluding function last night was a dance held in St. Francis Hall, which was filled by a happy throng of dancers. The decorations were most effective, festoons of light greenery and roses suspended from the ceiling to the sides of the room, while in the centre was a long shade of pale pink ribbons. Coloured lights outlined the stand where the orchestra was placed, and the whole effect was very pleasing. These included Mr Scott, who represented the wholesale side of the conference, and Mr Treleaven from Christchurch, head of the M.T.A. Reynolds, in black; and many others. The visitors leave to-day for their homes after a very happy three days in Wellington.

FIRE BRIGADE. The annual dance of the Municipal Fire Brigade took place last night in the Concert Chamber, and was as successful and enjoyable as these functions are each year. The gay decorations from the “Movie B&U*’ made an appropriate setting. The colours were red, blue, green, and yellow, and wide strips of these colours formed a sort of square overhead, with dependent festoons to the walls, and hung on the stage, round the hall from the ceiling, making a very gay setting indeed for the dancers. During the evening as usual the awards won by the men during the year were presented, the presentations being made by Councillor Luckie in place of the Mayor, who is absent on Holiday. These awards were:—Service honours: —Completed two years* additional service: Third Officer T. B. Clark and Auxiliary Foreman G. Beckett, two years’ gold bar, completing 15 years’ service. Two years’ silver bar, completing seven years of service: Senior Station‘Officer L. Hall. Two years’ silver bar, completing nine years of service; Auxiliary Foremen D. Law and F. Platt, and Firemen E. Anset, T. Burkett, P. Green. H. S. Harrison. J. Loughbridne. and H. Warr. The following members have completed five years’ service:—Station Officer K. H. Yercoe (silver medal), Auxiliary Foreman H. V. Batten (silver medal). The following members have completed three years’ service (certificate): Senior Fireman L. L. Johnston, Senior Fireman D. AlcK. AfcAlillan, Auxiliary Firemen F. A. Clarke, J. E. Elford, F. W. Elworthy, W. Foothcad, F. Harris, J. F. King, P C. McGill, W. E. Sewell, R. A. Wilson.

Acting - Superintendent Robertson was present, and received the councillors, and there were -also present Third Officer Clark and Mrs Clark, Senior Station Officer Hall and Airs Hall, Station Officers Garwood, Yercoe. and Ledbrook, Also Airs Ledbrook, and from the different district stations Messrs F. Arrowsmith, Batten. G. Beckett, Platt, and H. Ogden. There were also present a number of the fire police, including the following officers* Captain Wright, Lieutenant Asher with Miss Asher. Lieutenant Short and Airs Short, Lieutenant and Airs Har lan, and Lieutenant P. Ogden and Aliss Ogden. The committee consisted of Static; Officer Ledbrook. Fireman Re Alov Foreman Arrowsmith. Firemen Churchill and Free, and Rigby (hon. secce tary).
