Orange; Passionate, McGregor; Te Monanni, L. Pine; Spoony, W. Bagby: Star Ranger, H. Wiggins; Barometer, Tuohey. Queen Arch strode over six furlongs nicely at Ellerslie on Tuesday morning. It will be recollected that she was second to Ripon Abbey in the first division of the Auckland Handicap, one mile, at the recent Pakuranga meeting. She may go well in the Avondale Guineas, for she is one of the few engaged that have been a mile in public. Saucy Lass is the name under which tile Tea Tray—Lady Cilia filly will race. Town Bank is among the regular workers at Ellerslie, but it will be some time before this horse is quite ready. Ripon Abbey is among the acceptors for the Swanson Handicap, nine furlongs, on Saturday next at Avondale. This will', give some idea as to his Guineas prospects on Monday. Karamu will be ridden by S. Henderson at Avondale. N. Rowe will be on Te Tahi the first day, and D. McMullen on the second day. The latter will ride Flowing Bowl on Saturday. Le Choucas showed up as a two-year-old last season, winning one race and being placed on four other occasions out of eight starts. Le Choucas has pleased in his training work at Avondale, and he may be among those fancied at the meeting. • King Pot showed a great turn of speed last season and scored on three occasions, while he was placed in two other races. He is among those engaged at the Avondale meeting, and if he has gone on the right way in tho meantime he should be seen to advantage. Automaton, the full-sister to Automne, has been taken to Avondale, and by the way she is getting through her work has some prospects of repeating the performance of her brother in the Avondale Stakes (says the “Star*'). With Kilporon and Joy KiDg she will command some support. J. Barry will ride her. Llewellyn is one of the best jumpers that has been seen about Auckland for some time past. He is a big horse, and though he does not seem to be moving very fast, he covers a lot of ground in a stride. He is among those accepted for in the Grey Lynn Hurdle Race at Avondale on Saturday, and is sure to have some friends.

Peter Amans, though he has not been any jumping at Ellerslie recently,

appears to be in good heart, and is moving along all right in his work. East season he won the Brighton Hurdle Kace (two miles) from a good field, with Mia Bellh and Karamu in the places. Peter Amans is among those engaged at Avondale on Saturday. Automne, who was unbeaten as a two-year-old last season, has arrived at Avondale, and is moving along nicely in his work. He has furnished out considerably since he was last seen here, and he promises to 6trip a very fit horse on Saturday. He is engaged in the Plying Handicap, and on Monday is to contest the Guineas. He will ha\'e 6ome support in both his outings. Private reports from Taranaki state that Income has been galloping well. King Smock/ which went off a bit last season, seems to be returning to form by the way he is working at Avondale. Peneus has been sprinted a few times of late, remarks a Masterton correspondent, but he is not ready yet. However, he shows that he retains all his brilliancy. r Ituapap appears ttf be galloping as well as ever he did at Avondale, and probably he will be seen to advantage before the spring racing is concluded. Rapine raced well in the Eclipse Stakes at Wanganui, and since he has arrived at Avondale appears to be an improved horse. He has the steadier of 9.9, but if he goes on all right in the meantime he should beat more than beat him. Word comes from Te Awamutu that Te Kara is bowling along freely in his preparation for events ahead, though he has not had enough solid work yet to estimate his chance in a race like the New Zealand Cup . Another Psyohology has made its appearance at Mr T. H. Lowry's Okawa stud, D’Oro. the sister of Desert Gold, having produced a fillv to the son of Tracery. She is described as a filly of good size with exceptional bone. Nigger Minstrel will in all probability make his next appearance in the Champion Plate at Trentham next month. He will not go to Australia, Waikato's principal hope for the Avondale Cup appeared to bo Illumination, but Te Awamutu report© indicate that the Australian-bred horse is a doubtful starter. Owing to soreness he has had to be eased in his work. Another Avondale candidate in F. Loomb's stable that is causing her owner anxiety is the Paper Monev filly. Valve, for she 'has developed shin soreness, and unless she throws off the trouble quickly her engagement in the Avondale Stakes will be cancelled. Scotch Wit is the name under which the two-year-old filly by The Ace from Scottish Star will race> She is the only youngster with which Cutts Bros, are doing much at present. She sprinted l three furlongs up the back yesterday morning, evenly, having Rich Prize as a companion. G. J. Pine will have only Lucinette racing at the Dunedin spring meeting. It will probably depend upon her running there whether or not she takes her place in the New Zealand Cup field. It is understood that a patron of W. Holmes's stable was anxious to buv Bnrn Owl, but the reply received was that the Antagonist mare was n.ot for sale E. Garrett took Birkenella through to Auckland last week, and Mr F. Jensen's steeplechaser is to be a stable-mate ; of Sir Itoseberry. Gleutruin was sprinted over a few furlongs yesterday morning. The English mure las lost non© of her pace, and will *oon be ready for a public appearance. Celeritv 11.. the other English-bred filiy \n T. H. Gillett's stable, was also sent at hi fair speed over three furlongs. She ufioved well, and is evidently gping to be useful. Royal Blood is a great sprinter, and he is galloping with all 'his usual dash at Avondale this season.. He is top-weight, in the Flying Handicap with 9.7, an event which he won last year with 9.8. Gu. the second day he 'had 9.12 in the saddle and carried it into third place behind Finelli and. Master O'Rorke, a heck and a head dividing the trio. Royal Tea continues to please by the way he is working at EUerslie. and on Tuesday (says tho "Star") he beat An* trim Boy comfortably over three fur’otigs. ' Me and Clams are probably the be*t of the local two-year-olds, but they will l find soma pretty worthy opponents in the , Avondale Stakes on Saturday. ». . „
