SPANISH LANDING
POSITION MADE SECURE ’PLANES AND WARSHIPS ASSIST COUNTER-ATTACK FAILS By Telegraph.— Press Assn. —Copyright. Reuter's Telegram. (Received September 24, 7.40 p.m.) Madrid, September 23. A communique announcing the occupation of all three objectives, with assistance of fire from warships, and an aerial bombardment, says the capture of the ground before Morro Nuevo makes further landings at other points possible.
Earlier communiques stated that Spanish troops occupied Morro Viejo, southwards of Morro Nuevo, and also the Malmosi Ridge, which is in the interior of the Morro Nuevo Peninsula.
An enemy force made its way down the cliffs of Morro Nuevo, where the Spanish forces are encamped, with the object of surprising and attacking them from the rear. The enemy were repulsed.
