LAND AGENTS AND AUCTIONEERS
ANNUAL DINNER HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. The annual dinner of the Land Agents' and Auctioneers' Association was held at Gamble and Creed's last evening, Mr Dunbar Sloane presiding over a large attendance. Owing to illness an apology was received from the president of the association, Mr IT. E. Manley, and also from Mr A. Gellatly. Further apologies for non-attendance were received from the Hon. Mr Bollard (Minister for Internal Affairs), Mr W. G. Riddell, S.M., and Messrs Ritchie (Dunedin), Hislop (Canterbury), Clark (Auckland), Lawson (Wellington), v Hewitt (Dannevirke), Sellar (Masterton), Goodbehere (Feilding), W. E. Bethune, A. R. Wilson, and H. G. Death.
The guests of the evening, Messrs M. E. Luckie, W. B. Mcllveney (Superintendent of Police), and Leigh Hunt (Chamber of Commerce), were welcomed by the chairman (Mr Dunbar Sloane). ** The toast of "The Land Agents' and Auctioneers' Association of Wellington" was proposed by Mr G. S. Hill, who expressed gratification at the beneficial effect exercised by the association towards the land agents of the city. By affording the means of preventing undesirables from joining the fold/i the association had been instrumental in instilling public confidence.
_The> toast of The President." Mr R. E. Manley was then- drunk with musical honours.
EXAMINATIONS POSSIBLE Mr H. E. Leighton in proposing the toast of "The Real Estate Institute of x New Zealand," drew attention to the possibility that in the near future before becoming,a real estate agent, it would be necessary to pass an examination prescribed under the jurisdiction of the Real Ebtate Institute, and stated that successful candidates would be issued a land agents diploma. The toast was replied to by Mr G. Harcourt.
The toast of "The Visitors," proposed by Mr Dunbar Sloane, was responded to by Messrs F. Luckie, Leigh Hunt and Police Superintendent W. B. Mcllveney. Other toasts hououred during the evening- were "Kindred Assocoations," proposed by Mr R. A. Large and replied to by Mr A. W. Buxton; "The Ladies," proposed by .Mr A.- E. Carver, and "The Press," proposed-by Mr R. Leslie Jones. During the evening enjoyable musical items were rendered by Messrs R. Blow, Stuart, Nelson, H. Liardet, J. Hunt, E. J. Hill, R. Orr, R. Leslie «?<>nes, Neil Gow, and Harold Godier.
