Eighty convicts in the gaol on St. Cross Mountain in Southern Poland, where a number of Communists are serving long sentences, broke into the guardroom, disarmed the* guards, ami seized rifles and ammunition. They were unable to escape owing to the vigilance of the other guard. A detachment of police arrived, and a desperate struggle followed. Six prisoners and two policemen were killed, and 20 prisoners and four police were wound ed before order was restored.
Prince Seifeddin of Egypt has arrived at Constantinople, accompanied by his mother and his French nurse, and also by his British attendant, who diappeared from the British asylum, simultaneously with the Prince.
At Tia Juana, Mexico, fire did damage amounting to a million dollars to the border drinking town, wiping out famous bars, cafes, and gambling hells.
It is officially explained that tho French aviator de Coste was not made a prisoner in Germany. There was no fine in the ordinary sense. He is still in hospital. Cash was demanded as security pending an inquiry, after which it will be repaid. De C'oste will probably be allowed to return to Francs, in a few days. Two workmen have been arrested in connection with the recent fire in the Japanese Diet. The damage caused by the fire in the stores of. Frederick AsTi, Ltd., at Newcastle (N.S.W.) is now estimated at £BO,OOO. The fire apparently started in the top floor. The lift well proved the moans of carrying the flames to all Hoorn of the building. The buildings destroyed consisted of seven and three stories respectively. There were many narrow escapes when the walls fell. The buildings contained oils, paints, stacks of three-ply wood,, and general ironniongery.
