The lariat Masonic function in .the history of the craft was celebrated at Olympia on August Bth, when more than 7000 grand officers. and brethren lunched under the presidency of the grand master, the Duke of Connaught, at the Masonic Million Memorial Festival. The ambition of the craft is to erect a new home for Freemasonry -in Great Queen street, London,, as a-memorial to brethren who fell in the. war, apd it has been estimated that at- least a bullion pounds will be required, for the 1 Purpose. Thb i Duke of Connaught, "who was- supported by the Duke., of York, Prince Arthur of Connaught, Lord Lascelks, an'lT' representatives of Freemasonry from all parts of the world, announced that" as a result or the festival, the amount already subscribed . of \ promised —amounts to £826,014, of which _ £60,801 comes .from districts and oraer lodges overseas, £351,520 from the provinces, and £413,602 from London., Of this amount inofe’ than half a tnu■lion was already in hand. . ' Over 11,000 stewards contributed to the success-of the festival' and more than 7000 of them lunched at Olympia. The luncheon, which was provided oy Messrs Lyons, was the largest ever held in this country. More than 20W waitresses , were Present and the proceedings went, through without any hitch.., 'r'-r- '-‘v
