One can hardly help sympathising with them --in the dreams that give a starry height to their thoughts and the hopes t° which they hug as a miser to lii« gold. Music with them fires rhe blood and touches the heart. Things would he much better for the aspiring artist, of course, if the public who wants music took a more practical interest in the matter. It should not be left to the.young musician to fight his nr her way into public favour unaided. If the musicmaker is ready on tho on« *° devote an uncommon musical gut- to the «ervic* of th* public the more discerning of the public should esteem it their duly and privilege to help * uc h a one along the rood which leads to the goal of wider public recognition. Otherwise, while ambition lasts, it is too often a case of real musical talent doomed to wear life away in a ceaseless struggle for a footing.
