ESCAPED LEOPARD
NO SIGN OF ANIMAL WATCH BEING KEPT. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, September 21. The leopard which escaped from the Zoo has had five nightis of liberty. Volunteers scoured the countryside with dogs on Saturday unsuccessfully, but otherwise the organised search has been abandoned, as there is little hope of capture fill tho animal is seen and a proper beat is arranged. In the meantime, eight Zoo attendants, armed with guns and clubs, have been stationed at the most likely points. A later message states that the leopard has evaded all efforts to capture it. The animal was seen in a garden at Mount Albert, and made off stealthily into neighbouring cover. A close watch is being kept, and efforts, will be made to capture tho beast alive.
