An amending Bill, providing for the payment of a basic wage, of £4 5s to employees, was “gagged 5 ’ through all its stages in. the Legislat/vo Assembly. The Minister of Worljs, Mr M. J. Ivirwan, said the additional impost on industry would be £l/300,000 a year, but he contended tliat tiho general prosperity was such that it could hear the increase. The Leader of the Opposition said ho looked upon the introduction of the Bill as a humiliation to the Government and degradation to the Arbitration Court. It had been brought in because the strike council had dictated to'the Government.
