NOT ENOUGH
TOTAL SURRENDER DEMANDED By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. (Received August 28. 9.15 p.m.) BRISBANE. August 27. Railway traffic is completely suspended over- the whole State. The strikers are posting pickets at many stations. . A mass meeting of strikers in! Brisbane decided to go on with the strike until their objective is achieved. The Government eo far has conceded all the men’s claims except the right to hold stop-work meetings in working hours, hut the men demand a complete surrender by the Government. At present the outlook for a settlement is hopeless. The civil servants, apparently bent on aggravating the position, propose to hold a stop-work meeting to demand the restoration of the 36|iours working week, which recently was extended to 39$ hours. The general public of Brisbane felt the first effect* of the strike to-day, when many thousands ordinarily using the railroad to go to work were forced to find other conveyances. Many were unable to reach the city cwing to the lack of transport.
