The sub-committee practically arrived at an agreement on the main question at issue, and adjourned until tomorrow, when they will ask the chairman of the Shipowners’ Federation to summon a full conference. In the meantime the Port Phillip Stevedores’ Association has been involved in the strike. It baa declined to handle any cargo of one line of steamers, because non-union men are being employed.
A STATE SHIPPING LINE MR LANG TALKS OF ACTION. (Received July 30, 11.20 p.m.) • SYDNEY, July 30. Mr J. T. Lang, the State Premier, announced that failing the early settlement of the shipping strike, negotiations will he opened with the numerous owners of ships who have made tempting offers to the Government in regard to a State line of steamers.
The marine transport group of unions meets on Friday to .discuss the position.
