The consensus of opinion amon’e seamen seems to be. that the'owners’ proposals will have to be modified before they can be approved by the rank and file of the union. . . The proposals which are meeting with most opposition are those dealing with the abolition of stopwork meetings, holiday pay, and repatriation to tjiehhome ports of discharged seamen. The Burns. Philp Island steamer Makambo Jias joined the idle fleet, the seamen having refused toyman the vessel. The Union Company’s 6teamer Kokiri, at Sydney, and the Ngatoro, at Hobart, are also held up.
