A notable gathering of Irishmen of All political creeds in the North and South was present at a house dinner at* the Irish Club, in London, at which the principal guest was the Duke of York; others included the GovernorGeneral of the Free State; Sir Timothy Healy, a representative of Mr W. T. Cn6grave; Senator the Earl of Mayo, Sir Robert Lynn. Ulster M.P., and a number of prominent guests other than Irish. The Duke of York, who was warmly welcomed, made a speech dwelling on the distinctions won by living Irishmen in various spheres. Sir Timothy Healy said tho turmoil of distress which used to prevail in South Ireland had so wrung the aeait of His Majesty that, but for him, no approach towards a truce woqjd have been possible.
