OTHER COUNTS SAID TO BE PENDING SUBSTANTIAL BAIL FIXED “If hail is asked for, I ask that it he substantial, as I have been informed that the accused was preparing to leave the country,” said Chief-Detective Kemp, at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, when Raleigh Ginsberg, aged 29 years, was remanded qn a charge of theft of £IOO, the property of W. H. Trilford. In his application for the remand, until July Bth, the chief-detective said that the accused had been arrested by Detective Walsh on the previous evening, and he understood that otHer chargee were pending. Mr O. C. Maaengarb, who appeared for the accused, said that he had no intention of leaving the country. If he had desired to do so he could have left long ago, and perhaps would have succeeded. Counsel said that he could not object to substantial bail, and he thought that a condition that he report daily to the police might be made. The magistrate (Mr Orr-Walker) said that he would fix bail in self at £4OO, or two sureties of £2OO. The chief-detective: I am instructed that the total amount involved runs over £IOOO. His Worship: . I was not aware of that. The condition was also made that he report daily to the police.
