The course, which started and finished at the Miramar School, was over last year’s championship course. The conditions could not have been mnch worse, the course being under water a good deal of the way, with rain falling continuously. Provincial champion, Fred Silver, was on the scratch mark, conceding starts np to six minutes. Willie’ Needham soon overtook the limit men. H. Waring (4min) caught up to Needham on the Scots College road, and the pair remained together till the finish. The scratch man made up a lot of ground in the first round, and it appeared that he would repeat last year’s performance, hut although he made up a lot of ground in the second lap he failed to reach the tape first. Waring and Needham kept together until the straight was reached, when Need'ham started to sprint. He started his run too soon, and Waring came away over the last 50 yards to win by about 10 yards. Silver, who was about 80 yards further hack in third place, established fastest time, 82min 48sec. Zander was some distance back, fourth. BROOKLYN CLUB’S COOK CUP The wet weather was responsible for three scratchings for the Cook Cup. The distance was five miles, the course covered being identical with that followed by file Scottish Club. Ten runners faced the starter. D. Todd had pride of place, conceding up to 6min. He moved up to third nlnoe in the sandhills, and crossing the golf links was lying second. Willis was soon overhauled, and Todd, finishing strongly, won by about a furlong. A.
