Dear Fa iriel, — I would very much like to be one of your elfs, if there is a mushroom left for me. I would not need a very big one, as I am not a very big boy. If there are not enough mushrooms to go round, I will wait till some more grow. I’m going to bed now, Fairiel, dear. Good-night. Your little friend, HILARY. I am seven years old, and I am in Standard I. I like going to school very much. We had the inspector at school on Friday. The teacher said not to be afraid of him. because he wouldn’t eat us, and ho didn’t. I won’t be going in for the crossword puzzle, because they are too hard for me., Still, I will watch my big sister doing them, and some day I will do them, too. Next week I will be writing.
