MUSHROOM MODES
_ The pinky-brown tone of the inner sid# of a nice, fresh mushroom is the newest and most fashionable tint of the moment, both for frocks and for furnishing. It is a becoming shade, and one which lends itself admirably to enrichment by means of gold, silver, and coloured embroideries without looking garish. In fact, it is a splendid background. Excellent as a wall background is the mushroom tint. All pictures, whether in oil or water-colour, look well against it; as for the woodwork of the room, there is an infinitude of choice as regards shade. Parchment cream, apricot yellow, apple green—all look equally well for the doors and skirting, while in cushions one may run .the whole gamut of blues and mauves without creating a single discord. An amiable colour, this mushroom! It makes a poor complexion appear clearer, and it does not dim the lustre of the eyes, nor take the light out of the hair in the way that is common to most shades of brown. Both young and old find it sympathetic. So its vogue is iikely to prove more enduring than most.
