A number of victims of the Hackettstown disaster have succumbed to their injuries, increasing the death-roll to 42. The train was a special one, with 182 Germans on board. One man who was pinned by the debris offered a rescuer a roll of notes to kill him. The disaster at Hsckettstown, New jersey was the result of a storm which undermined and twisted the rails no that the special train, carrying foreigners who were on their wav to take ship from America, was derailed. The late Fir Edward Sassoon left £488.849. The estate duties amount to £122,000. He was chief partner in the great Indian and China firm of E. D. Sassoon and Co., merchants and bankera.
