BEFORE THE COURT POLICE AND SUMMONS CASES. Police and summons cases were dealt with by Mr C. R. Orr-Walker. S.M., at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. John O’Neill was fined £2 for refusing to quit lioensed: premises, convicted and discharged for being drunk, and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon for resisting a constable. “Both men were under the influence of liquor, and both are bad characters with long lists,” said Senior-Sergeant Lander after Michael McQuirk and Percy Cashman had pleaded guilty to fighting in Manners street. Each was fined £3, in default 14 days’ imprisonment. Henry David Codyre was fined £1 on his second conviction for drunkenness. For deserting his ship, the Corinthic, Joseph George Winch was sentenced zu 14 days’ imprisonment. John Henry Withers, on the application of Senior-Detective Cameron, who said that other charges were pending, was remanded until Wednesday next on a charge of obtaining from George Barker, of Eltham, the sum of £3O by means of a valueless cheque of £SO drawn on the Bank of Australasia. For entering a hotel while being a prohibited person Walter John Hamilton was fined £1 10s. “The defendant was driving a car along the wrong side of Ghuznee street in a negligent manner when he skidded across the road and knocked over a news vendor’s stand.” said Senior-Ser-geant Lander, who prosecuted. For driving a car in a manne,r dangerous to the public lan Grant was fined £7 10s and 10s costs, and was convicted and discharged for failing to keep to the left, and for driving without a license. William Nelson Baker who was found on licensed premises after hours was fined £1 and 14s costs. Neglect to obtain a motorists’ license cost Alfred Whitlow £1 with 7s costs. A Government servant, whose name was suppressed, was fined £5 for the theft of £3, the property of John Joseph Dixon; The defendant had been given the money by the complainant to make a purchase, but instead of doing as requested had spent the cash for his own needs. William Wells was fined l £5 with £1 11s costs for negligently driving n motor-car.
