“GET IT OFF QUICK”

THE COATES RECIPE Mr E. A. Ransom, a member of Parliament who aits on the benches opposite to Mr Coates, spoke a little piece at Dannevirke yesterday afternoon which, while true to life, will do the new Prime Minister no harm in the telling. “I have always found Mr Coates a fair man,” Mr Ransom said. “He is quick to arrive at a decision. He will listen to any argument, and give you a definite answer. If you go to him with a deputation, and you have anything to say, get it off quick, for if you hesitate he will pop in with his answer, and you will be left with half your piece unsaid. It will not always be the answer you want, but you will get a fair, square deal, and you will know where you are, and that is a great thing with any man. He will not beat about the bush with you.”
