AMERICAN FLEET

ENTERTAINING THE MEN VISITS TO COUNTRY PLANNED That opportunities are to he given to the men of the American ships of seeing as much of the Dominion as •possible during the short space of their visit is evidenced by a statement made yesterday by the Minister for Internal Affairs, the Hon. R.. F. Bollard. The Minister stated that to entile the visitors to see something of the country other than the, ports of arrival, it was hoped to arrange for parties of, say, 50 officers and from 400 to 500 lnen to visit Masterton and Palmerston North, and parties of from 40 to 50 officers only to visit Wanganui, Napier, and Hamilton. The Government is in communication with the Mayors of the centres mentioned. Rotorua is also to have a visit from some of the men of the ships, and the Government is extending an invitation to Admiral Coontz and his officers to make a trip to that interesting town. “It is proposed,” said Mr Bollard, “to arrange for two separate parties consisting of 200 officers each from Auckland and two parties of 25 officers each, one of them including Admiral Coontz himself, from Wellington, the Auckland and Wellington parties to combine on arrival, at Frankton. Details have yet to he considered as to the length of the stay in Rotorua and suitable dates, hut present indications nre that the parties will arrive one day and depart the next, and that the two trips will be about a week apart. Mr IT. Tai Mitchell, who has so generously given his time and service in the reception and entertainment of the Government's guests by the loral Arawas on similar occasions previously, has again been asked to kindly associate himself with the Department of Internal Affairs in the arrangements at Rotorua for the entertainment of our American guests.”
