SUMMONS DAY

CASES BEFORE MAGISTRATE CLOSING HOURS OF SHOPS. Summons cases were dealt with by Mr C. R. Orr-Walker. S.M., at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. “Something took place in reference to a woman,” said Sub-Inspector Hollis in a case where John William Humphries was fined £2 and 7s costs for procuring liquor, and £3 and costs for assaulting an old man named Henry Alexander. Rex Porter was ordred to pay £2 and £1 2s costs for riding a motor-cycle at an excessive speed along Tinakori road. The Wellington Bread Company were fined £3 and 7e costs for selling bread wrapped in-newspaper. For failing to post a copy of an industrial award P. Hutson and Co., Ltd., were fined £1 and costs. Mr W. J. Montjo.y, of the Labour Department, had a busy time during the morning prosecuting breakers of the law regarding the hours of closing shops and offices. The following were fined: —Pearl Duggan, £2; Herbert Edward Kotserall, £2; Annie Martini, £2 XOs; Samuel Glazer (two charges), £3; L. Bailey, £2; Timothy Beggs, £2; William Brown and Mrs F. Whitaker, £2; George Carey, £2; Mrs C. R. Davis, £2; Price. Falder and Co., Ltd., £2; W. Munckton, £2; T. Orrnsby, £2; Thomas Wilkes, £2; James R. Simpson, £2; Mrs A. For kicking a horse John Kelly was fined £5 and costs. i
