Prior to sinking a shaft to test Muir’s •rold reefs mine at To Puke at a greater depth No. 3, a winze on Muir's reef was nunk to a depth of 150 ft below No. 3 level, and work had then be suspended owing to water trouble. A crosscut was put out from the shaft 500 ft. below the level in question to .intersect. Muir’s leef has drained off the wafer,..and a few days ago the sinking of the winze was resumed. The fortnightly sale of sheepsxins, hides and tallow rtvas held yesterday afternoon, when a medium sized catalogue of all grades was submitted to a full attendance of exporters, fellmongers, tanners, and the local trade. Sheepskins —As compared with last sale's rates, ily and salties were slightly better, report Dalgetv and Co. Hides—There was a fair demand for all specially prepared parcels, and prices for heavies, medium, and lightweights were about on a par with late rates; kip and yearlings sold in buyers favour, —bile calf showed a slight improvement. At the Feilding stock sale + o-day there was a full yarding both of fat and store sheep, oidding spirited throughout, and prices advanced on last sale. A few lines of good ewe and wether lambs were in keen demand, buyers being in evidence from all parts of the district. There was a small yarding of cattle, consisting of dairy stock, fat cows and heifers. There was the usual yarding of cull cows. Fat cattle showed a slight advance on last sale.
