WITH THE HARRIERS

KEEN CLUB RACES IN WEEK-END tßy “Pacemaker.”) To-day’s Events. Olympic, 'elay race at Seatonn. Brooklyn and Hutt Valley, combined run from Hutt Park. Scottish. Wades town. Wellington, Kelburn. The Olympic Club held their 6econd annual race for the Phiip Memorial Cup last Saturday. The course led over three miles of somewhat heavy hill countiy, which made things very trying for some of the untrained runners. Twenty-two members completed the distance, a fact which proves this club to be in a fairly strong position. The handicapper was very liberal with the .handicaps, making a limit of six minutes, which is a big hurdle m three miles. The scratch man Tom Wilson, ran exccptioaaly -'ell, but could make no impression on the limit men. He had the satisfaction of registering fastest tune, 18min SOec. The winner turned up' in 3. Blair, a lad of 17 years of age. He was in receipt of a handicap of smin, of which ho made- the most, winning comfortably by 50 yards from Mcllitt tornin losec). The Brooklyn Club is having a ban time just now as far as membership goes, but it always seems to be able to unearth a dark hoise or two. Three of its star performers will shortly be leaving Wellington, and their places will be hard to fill. There were five starters in the Brooklyn Club’s 2£ miles novice race last Saturday. A. Cornish was on the scratch mark, with 0. Robinson (55 sec) on the limit. Parker (50sec) led most of the way until Robinson came awav over the fiual 100 yards, winning by 10 yards, F. Berry, of whom the club members speak enthusiastically, ptu in. a surprising sprint over the last i 150 yards, hut failed by the smallest of margins to beat Robinson. Berry established fastest time, and in good hands he should develop into a good on;. Eleven runners faced the starter in the Wellington Club’s 2} miles novice race, which was also held at'Miramar. The 'emit man, J. Hennessay (2min 20 sec) led all the way, and except for a short period, .hen hard pressed by Weston, was never extended, and won by 30 yards. W. Weston was second and was closely followed by W. WareB. ’lVilliams (35see) secured fastest time The Masterton Club held a five miles run last Saturday, starting from the | Park. Two miles from home the pack j was met by the handicapper, who allotted handicaps for the run in. That the handicapper has a good knowledge of the capabilities of the runners was shown by the close finish. No less than 10 runners entered the park inside 15 seconds. Ir. a desperate finish W. Wimball beat S. Spicer hv a-* foot, with B. Peters, a young runner, third. Fastest time was established by the scratch man. McEachen.
