“CALM AFTER STORM”
HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
HAMILTON, April 16. The last meeting of the old Hamilton Borough Council was virtually a calm after a storm, but the recent wranglers found solace in the fact that, contrary to custom, the gathering dispersed without felicitations. One proposal adopted was to round off several corner streets, which action was described by one councillor as pandering to motorists, and encouraging them to whip around intersections at a dangerous speed. It was pointed out. however, that such easements improved the line of vision, thus minimising the danger of accidents while improving the appearance of the town. The problem of Massey street, which owing to swamp foundation was a difficult road to real with, was again discussed, and it was decided to put the road in temporary order out of maintenance, and defer the question of permanent construction to the incoming council.
