LYALL BAY
PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION. EXECUTIVE MEETING. _ A meeting; of the executive committee of the Lyall Bay Progressive Association was held on Wednesday evening. The president, Mr J. M. Bertram’ presided over a stood attendance of members. Before proceeding with the business of the evening, sympathetic reference was made to the . illness of the Prime Minister, and the following motion was moved by the chairman: "That this meeting expresses its • ncere sympathy with tho. Prime Minister. the Hon. W. F. Massey, in his severe illness and condoles with Mrs Massey and family in the anxious time which they are at present undergoing.” A letter was received from the town clerk stating that the channelling at Haswell’s coroner would be renewed during the ensuing year, and- also that steps would be taken to try and prevent the water from scouring out the road in Queen’s Drive. It was also stated that the recently imported street sprinkler was doing such good work that it might be possible to reallocate the street watering units for the suburban districts. It was. however, too late to make any change this year. The City Council tramways committee were unable at present to recommend a reductidn in fares.
In connection with the deputation from the association, which recently waited upon the works committee of the City Council in. inspect to certain urgent requirements in the district, the town clerk has advised that -.he requests will be given consideration with the framing of next year’s estimates. The action of the delegate repr as mting the association on the Civic Loa;ra© candidates selection committee, was endorsed.
The electrical change over was discussed. Apparently tho average charge to Lyall Bay residents is oonsidimbly more than £3, which Councillor B. G. Burn stated at a recent meeting, wac the average charge made to owners of fairly modern residences, where the change-over had been completed. Instances were given "where owners had been billed for amounts of £7, £lO, £lB, and up to £3O. It was decided to ask the Citv Council whether the Appeal Board had been set' up to hear objections to the charges made, and if it had not been set up when would it be?
Messrs J. M. Bertram and A. C. Blake, the delegates appointed to wait upon the Kilbirnie Association in. regard to the Lyall Bay and Kilbirnie associations boundaries, reported that a satisfactory settlement had. been made, and it would be confirmed by letter from the Kilbirnie Association.
