TWO MEN AND A GIRL
RIVALS COME TO BLOWS. ASSAULT CASE FOLLOWS. Jealousy of a supposed! rival for a young lady’s affection made lan Henry Carlyle “see green” one night, and in consequence he was up tat the Magistrate's Court yesterday on a charge of assault. Carlyle, it appeared from the evidence of witnesses, was waiting outside the young lady’s place of employment for her to come home, and when the light of his life appeared in company with another young man named Ashman, the gallant demanded an explanation from him. When told' that it was none of his busineos the wronged one punched Ashman in the nose, and said he would teach him to take his girl out.
The young lady appeared at the court, and when questioned by Sub-Inspector Hollis, admitted l that defendant was her “sweetheart,” and that she had “gone walking” with another boy. She hadn’t seen the blow struck. Ashman reoeived a fractured nose, and bruised ribs, and Mp F. K. Hunt, S.M., decided' that it must cost Carlyle £1 and the costs.
