AccordL 12* to “WeddeFs Annual Review.” the arrivals of frozen mutton and frozen lainlvfrom alt sources into Great Britain in 1924 aggregated 12,;W2,063 carcases, as compared with 15.130.555 carcases in 1923. a decrease of 2,153.802 carcases, or 14.2 per cent., showing clearly tho effect of the high price of wool during the past 18 months upon the export of mutton and lamb. Tho total number of carcases of frozen mutton imported into the United Kingdom in 1924 was 5,077,698, as compared with 6.228,323 carcases in 1923, showing a reduction of 1,150,630 carcases, or 13.4 {per cent., chiefly tho result of a heavy drop of 1,396.915 carcases in Australian shipments. New Zealand arrivals made a small recovery of 250,435’carcases from the greatly reduced total of 1923, and ti e supply of Uruguayan mutton was increased by 60,555 carcases, but the Argentine republic sent. 115,301, and Patagonia 93,493 oarcascs fewer.
For the first time since 1918 there was a reduction in the quantity of lambs imported, the total number of carcases received beirv 7,904,385, against 8.907,557 carca.ses in 1923, a decrease of 1,003,172, or 11.3 per cent. From Australia i <tle more than half of the preceding l year's total was shipped, the decrease amounting to Fi-4.876 carcases, but New Zealand augmented her contribution by 134,547 carcases, and from Uruguay there was a modest increase of 2627 carcases. Shipments from the Argentine republic and Patagonia were reduced by 148,703 carcases and 64.950 carcases respectively. Under the heading of “other countries’' there was a total of 18.993 carcases from Canada, which compares with BCO carcases in 1923.
