WORLD NEEDS MORE MEAT

ARGENTINA'S PRODUCTION HAS ■REACHED THE LIMIT. INVESTIGATOR’S VIEWS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Australian and N-Z. Cable Association. LONDON, March 23. ; No reduction in the wholesale price of meat is likely for some time. The Argentine -production has now •practically reached its limit of- expansion ; it may even decrease. , , These are two most interesting opinions formed by Air Cramise during investigations conducted on behalf of Australian meat producers in South America. On his arrival in London fce said: “The world demand for meat is growing steadily. More meat than ever is required. This is. therefore. Aus- ■ !■'■'■: ’s opnortunitv. Australia can afford to stock 7,000,000 to 10,000,000 more Head of cattle u:i her pastures. The Argentine on the best of country has but one beast to every 2J acres. In the Northern Territory of Australia* there is one beast to 640 acres. WITH HELP OF SCIENCE.

“After a thorough consideration of the whole chilled beef industry, I am inclined to the belief that the shipment of chilled beef from Australia •to England is not such a hopeless proposition. Tho researches of British scientists have reached a point which promises ultimate success. When science enables beef to be sent across the world chilled instead of frozen, the prosperity of the Australian beef industry may ultimately approximate that of the Argentine. “I am satisfied that the Australian meat industry’s present overhead expenses are reasonably low and can fce reduced further only by a greater volume of trade. Australia’s potentialities for expansion are illimitable, but the world’s demand for meat appears almost illimitable. Therefore, I see no likelihood of cheaper meat, although it may be possible to cheapen the costs of retail distribution.”
