ALLEGED JOB CONTROL
CLAIM AGAINST SEAMEN’S UNION. ! The case in which Eckford and ComIpany, shipowners, of Blenheim, proceeded against the Seamen’s Union for I £IOO 'damages for alleged job control I was concluded in the Magistrate’s j Court yesterday, judgment being re;served. ' The action arose through the comI pany being unable to obtain a crew for j the Opawa, due t it was alleged,, to the ] union, having instructed its members not to accept employment on the vessel on account of two of the hands being non-unionistß. Mr T. Young, who .represented the Seamen’s Union, contended that the Opawa, being gropelled by an internal combustion engine, did not come under the award.
