At Estcourt the Cape-Natal expre«» plunged into the river beyond Hartahill last night. The engine and a third-class coach were wrecked and the driver, fireman and several natives perished. 'Che wreckage was entangled in the girders of the bridge. The other coaches were saved bv the coupling* breaking. One coach hung suspended over the river. The accident, which is attributed to a cloud-burst sweeping away the bridge after a passenger train had crossed, follows a series of floods in Natal, in which Ladysmith and places ■between Durban and Zululand suffered considerably.
