LEGAL OPINIONS
At the outset of its very hazardous enterprise, the Dairy Control Board is moving between two legal opinions diametrically opposed to one another. Both cannot be right. Can the board distinguish? There is a simple rule to go by. One of these opinions is the matured thought of legal practitioners not likely to be influenced by anything but the merits of the case. The other is the opinion of the practitioner who is responsible for the Act. We by no means say that the Act is wrong because of its legal parentage. That would be outrageous, and an absurd criticism of all the statute law of every session. But when a point is taken in the mailer of one statute by outside authority, and the defence is taken up by the authority responsible for the point, it is'but prudent to remember that the best of men is always inclined to defend his own production. It is no disparagement to the Attorney-General to advise the Dairy i Control Board to get another legal opinion. '
