The wicket was in splendid condition. W. R. Patrick won the toss, and after a delay owing to a misunderstanding between the captains over the covering of the wickets Huddleston and Worker took strike for the Dominion. 1 , The New Zealand batsmen occuoied the rtease nearly . the whole of the day, and scored 226 runs. Alloo (Otago) was top scorer with 51 not out, while Blunt (Canterbury) made 30, Worker (Otago) 34, and Hiddleston (Wellington) 22. . The Victorian bowlers, Wallacp, Liddicutt, and HartkoDf, made runs hard to get, and they'were backed\Up by' a keen field. .The Victorians had no wickets down for 5 runs when stumps were drawn.
