New Zealand horses have won rar# fame in Australia from time to time (writes “Pilot” in the “Keferee”), going a long way hark now to the days t)f Carbine and before that. The Hawk, the hardy son of Martian, has added to the laurels of horses from across the Tasman. His weight-for-age exploits at the Melbourne autumn meetings in opposition to horses with fine records and noted for their speed, were most excellent—three wins and a second with a fresh Australasian record for the mile. This form suggests great contests at the A.J.C autumn meeting a little while hence. Men who wear spectacles are not regarded as suitable for driving ‘buses in crowded London streets, a* the sun shining on the lens might cause a momentary blindness, with disastrous eileets.
