Another feat has been achieved by Mr Charles Barwell. of Panmure, who already has a notable record in New Zealand for long-distance cycling tours. Last week Mr Harwell cycled over the MilfordTe Anau track, und it is claimed that he is the first person to have traversed the Mackinnon Pass on a. bicycle. The performance was the more remarkable because the weather had reduced the road to a very muddy state. It was stated at a meeting of the London County Council that 128 men over the age of 70 years were employed in the tramways department, most of them as watchmen, while 420 men were over 65 years.
