ENGRAVED IN GAOL
CONVICTED FORGER’S TASK, CHIEF JUSTICE SURPRISED. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received January 20. 9.35 p.m.) LONDON, January 19. The Chief Justice (Lord Hewart), dim. missing the appeal of Ernest Everett, who was sentenced to 7 years’ penal servitude for forgery, pointed out that when Everett was arrested be possessed 450 forged currency notes. It was surprising that when previously imprisoned tor forgery Everett should have been given the task of learning to engrave, becoming extraordinarily efficient. The selection of such a prison task for a convicted forger required immediate in^qiix.
