The State’' Treasurer, Sir Arthur Cocks, after conferring with the Prime Minister on financial matters, said that, the solution of the difficulty, fraught with the least possibility of-evil and the greatest possibility of good; was raising loans tor Australia in the form of actual gold for importation and coining and distribution within '-he , Commonwealth. ' ; , “If the solution of the difficulties would be to borrow from’ the lenders who will give us gold,” lie said,;,“then the problem narrows itself down to whether Britain will release the embargo in respect of the exportation of gold .and take our loans on the basis that will eerve us, best, or whether we have to seek the American market.” -
