CAPTURED BY PIRATES
" STEAMER PLUNDERED. CONTROLLED FOR!DAYS. Reuter’s Telegram. PEKING, January 18. The Chinese-owned steamer Honghwa, flying, the British flag and carrying several hundred Ohiilese passengers and general cargo, was captured by pirates en route from Singapore to Hong Kong. The pirates, numbering over thirty, embarked as passengers at Singapore, and five days out surprised the captain and officers at. the revolver point, while they were at hijfekfasli. • _ : . The pirates dismantled the wireless equipment, and for three days completely controlled the vessel. The officers and crew were; compelled to work the ship, which was taken to Bias,Bay. The desperadoes escaped with considerable plunder. There .were no casualties.
