PRINCE OF WALES
- REPORTED ENGAGEMENT. ■ tSydnm- CiHUi LONDON, January 15. ~lt is learned that a closely-guarded' Royal secret interesting the whole-Em-pire will-be disclosed during the Prince of ‘Wales’s coming visit to South Africa, by the official announcement of the betrothal of the Prince of Wales to his Lsdy May Cambridge, daughter of the Earl or Athlone. The engagement was arranged before the Earl of Athlone’s appointment as ‘Governor-General of South Africa, hut announcement was withheld until May "enters her twentieth' year. .
The Earl of Athlone, Governor-Gen eral of South Africa, is the third son of ‘ the late Duke of Teck, and therefore a brother of Queen Mary. He married -in 1904 Princess Alice of Albany, and Lady May is his eldest daughter. The Earl is in his 50th year. This is not the first time, that the. Prince’s engagement to Lady' May Cambridge has been rumoured.
