Queen (marlotte Sound; has drawn to' its peaceful. shares a ' larger number of residents of ■ Wellington/ looking for rest and quiet, than-usual during, the summer vacation. At a deputation from the looal borough council which interviewed the Hon. R: F. Bollard (Minister for Internal Affairs): during his visit to the town)- it was stated that approximately - 2000 persons, -had come over from Wellington to. spend the Christmas holidays at Picton, and that many: more had made "arrangements .to stay there. This , was said to he a good sign of. the increasing popularity of -the resort. ; 1 The Picton Borough Council has a scheme to provide well-laid-out gardens on the foreshore,. which commands an admirable view of the harbour. Some difficulty in the carrying out of the proposals has, however, presented itself. Local enterprise desired -in the formation of the gardens to erect, a bath-house and tea-rooms there, but the Railway Department, in handing over the area to the borough when the new wharf was erected, placed the reserve under the 'Domains Act, which prevents the council giving authority for the erection of the building mentioned. is a halt in the scheme, and the council, very-much perturbed, assured Mr Bollard that unless something could be dpne to/ease the position" its efforts to provide additional comforts for its visitors would be frustrated. The matter "is to be represented to the Minister for Railways.
