LONDON, January 15. •In evidence before the Food Commission, Mr -Hobley, principal*/ wheat buyer for the Co-operative Wholesrilb Society, referring to Canadian methods of delivering wheat from th© : to the elevators, said- that it waa a bad system, an<3, according to late dispatches from panada, tended- to increase prices. . - . . He criticised th# old-fashioned ideas of Argentine growers, and th© wasteful .systen of bagging wheat. Ml- Hobley. urged that .Indian wheat be'-kept at >.a -temperature in which the weevil could hot breed, as the deevil destroyed- a great quantity of wheat. He remarked that Australia, was improving as‘ a source of . supply since the Government erected silos and made other arrangements enabling their own .'country to ggt bulk; wheat and make - useful economies.
Replying to the chairman, Sir Auokiand Go.tides, tlie witness expressed the opinion that the “six sinister figures” who were said to oontrol the importation of wheat in Britain were a mythical sensation.
