WATER SUPPLY
BIG RESERVOIR CONSTRUCTED. ANOTHER TQ.BEGIN. ■ It was hoped by the city waterworks and drainage department that the Onslow reservoir of 400,000 gallons would have-been finished by the time the seasonal holidays arrived. This, however, was found impossible, as the heavy downpour just prior to Christmas hung up the work for round about a week. The walls have long been completed, and the ipof is more than half finished.
The i reservoir, Which is a service one, and is part of the new Orongorcngo water supply scheme, has taken about nine months to construct. It is in an exposed position, difficult of access; and a road had to be made to it. The excavation for a similar reservoir Karori is now well forward, and the work will be pushed on in the New Year, as' soon as the Onslow task is done. The Karori reservoir will be a shorter task, as conditions are better from every point of view, and good weather should be ahead. ,
